REASONS TO BE INVOLVED (in no particular order)
#1 MEALS ON WHEELS- Our meals program for the homebound elderly helps to keep seniors independent and in their own homes. A nutritious, hot meal is delivered Monday through Friday.
#2 CONGREGATE MEALS- Each weekday lunch is served at 11:30am. These meals meet the federal one-third RDA dietary daily intake requirements for senior citizens. It's a delicious hot meal served in a wonderful social environment.
#3 RECREATION - We have numerous recreational activities for your enjoyment. Come play cards, billiards, checkers, bingo, or dominoes and make some new friends.
#4 EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES - Want to learn about the Internet, review the latest changes in Social Security and Medicare or identify beginning signs of depression? Need some help signing up fo 63236aaar Medicare Part D? Want to join a Caregivers' group, Parkinsons' group or Grief Support group? These are all classes that you could attend at the Senior Center. See our monthly calendar for excellent classes!
#5 HEALTH PROMOTIONS - We have a variety of health classes offered throughout each week. Regularly scheduled screening programs include blood pressure checks and blood sugar checks.
#6 EXERCISE CLASSES- We offer numerous exercise classes, including Armchair Aerobics, Strength & Stretch, Fitness Aerobics, Yoga, Chair Yoga, Chair Volleyball and others. We also have a large fully-equipped, modern exercise room available all day weekdays.
#7 TELEPHONE REASSURANCE - This service provides a daily phone call to a senior citizen in order to check on his/her well being. Calling times can be scheduled for your loved one's convenience.
#8 TRANSPORTATION - Need a ride to your doctor's appointment, grocery store, or want to come to the Center but don't have a way? If you live within the city limits, give us a call. Our van runs from 8:15a until noon each day. Please call at least a day ahead of time.
#9 INFORMATION AND REFERRALS- Do you have questions about where to get the help you need or when the next "Make a Difference Day" is scheduled? Call the Center and we will get you the information you need. (See our Helpful Links page.)
#10 ENTERTAINMENT - Line dance classes, Wii bowling-tennis-and baseball, shuffleboard, ping pong, corn toss, electronic Mahjong and billiards are just a few of the fun things we have going on here weekly.
